Grundfos Completes R&D Project in Hungary

Danish pump manufacturer giant Grundfos successfully completed its latest research and development (R&D) project in Hungary, aimed at improving the efficiency of entire product families.
Implemented with the support of HIPA, the EUR 3.47 million investment created 40 new high value-added jobs at the company’s product development center in Székesfehérvár.
Over a period of three years, the Hungarian team worked on developing next-generation electric motor technologies and structural innovations to enhance the reliability and lifetime of Grundfos pumps. Innovations include premium-efficiency motors that significantly reduce electricity consumption and modificated pump design that lowers the risks of clogging and failures. As a result, the company can meet both market demand and serve the goal of environmental sustainability with more economical and more reliable products.
Outside Denmark, Hungary is the most important base in Grundfos’s manufacturing network that spans 60 countries. The Hungarian workforce of 3,000 employees operate, among others, four production facilities and a financial and IT service center (BSC).
The roots of Grundfos itself goes back to 1944. Founder Poul Due Jensen developed the first pump – the Foss 1 model – in the basement of his home in Bjerringbro after failing to find a product that met his needs. Just five years later, the company was already producing for export. It adopted the name Grundfos in 1967. The company is owned jointly by the founder’s family, employees, and a foundation. In the most recent financial year, 2024, it employed around 20,000 people worldwide and generated revenues of EUR 4.45 billion.
