Bosch Group has been using significant resources to conduct R&D in Hungary, and as a result some 4,000 employees are involved in this field. The company’s sites in Miskolc and Maklár both host related activities. After the recent opening of Bosch Budapest Innovation Campus, the groundbreaking of a brand-new center in Zalaegerszeg took place with the purpose of setting up a hub for testing and developing future-proof mobility technology, in particular self-driving, e-mobility and AI.

Up to 200 engineers will be on board once the R&D center is up and running. At their disposal will be a 2,000 sq m office building and a workshop of 1,500 sq m, the latter being a venue to test vehicles with both internal combustion and electric engines. The specialists will mainly focus on improving advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and working on different aspects of autonomous driving.

The investment will take place next to ZalaZone, a proving ground that serves as a global benchmark for testing self-driving solutions in a 5G environment.
