Major development by Unilever in Nyírbátor

Unilever expands the floor area of its home care plant in Nyírbátor by one third, thus increasing its production capacity by about a quarter. As part of the nearly EUR 42 million investment, one of the most modern, strategically important European plants of the British-Dutch parent company will be expanded with an 11,000 square-meter packaging hall, two new production lines and an 8,000 square-meter state-of-the-art warehouse. Thanks to the development, the plant will be able to produce 370 million bottles of products instead of the current 300 million per year, and some of these will be made from recycled plastic.

Unilever is one of the world's leading manufacturers and distributors of consumer products, selling products from nearly 400 brands (including Dove, Rexona, Axe, Domestos, Cif, Coccolino, Knorr, Lipton, Magnum, Cornetto) in more than 190 countries. The group produces finished products in more than 300 factories in 69 countries, generating sales of EUR 52 billion in 2019, employing around 150,000 people.

For Unilever, Hungary is a popular and prominent manufacturing centre in Central and Eastern Europe, employing nearly 1,500 people. Magnum ice creams are transported from the Veszprém ice cream factory even overseas. Popular Knorr soup powders and soup bases together with the Delikát condiment are manufactured in their factory in Röszke, while liquid detergents and disinfectants in the home care plant in Nyírbátor. In addition, Unilever Hungary plays a leading role in the region, too, as in addition to its domestic role, it is also the centre of Hungarian, Slovenian, Croatian and Bosnian management processes, thus it is responsible for supplying a total of about 20 million consumers.

Production and warehousing capacity of the home care unit in Nyírbátor, which is already one of Unilever's most modern and strategically important plants in Europe, is growing and 20 new jobs will be created. Domestic demand for Domestos disinfectants manufactured at the plant, among other cleaning products and rinses, doubled in the last two months to nearly two million litres.

The investment, which will include the planting of 300 trees around the plant in the first phase, could be completed in early 2021. The plant currently employs 260 people and manufactures well-known home care products such as Domestos, Cif, Coccolino, Flóraszept, Surf or Omo.
