One of the key activities of British legacy firm Rolls-Royce is linked to air mobility whereby the company deals with the design, development and integration of innovative electrical and hybrid-electrical power and propulsion systems that will shape the future of aviation in the Advanced Air Mobility market. As part of the global Rolls-Royce Electrical business, the engineers of Roll-Royce Hungary play a crucial role in the process.

Rolls-Royce now has announced to launch a large-scale R&D project at its facility in Budapest that is focused on making aviation more sustainable. On the one hand, power and propulsion systems will be developed for all-electric and plug-in hybrid aircraft designed for commuting and urban transport. The second part of the project concerns the development of high-speed generator-based systems.

The EUR 16.4 million investment will add 20 highly qualified engineers to the payroll on top of the 120 ones currently employed in Budapest. It is also expected to accelerate technological breakthroughs by Rolls-Royce that will support low and zero-emission air travel by 2050.
