Infineon has started its largest ever development in Cegléd: the German company is building a new plant in Hungary in the framework of its latest investment of up to EUR 100 million. The new plant will produce semiconductor modules for inverters in electric and hybrid vehicles, thus creating 275 new jobs in the coming years.
Munich-based Infineon Technologies AG is a market leader in the design and manufacturing of industrial semiconductors with its over 40,000 employees. The German company is present in 134 countries on six continents, employing more than 40,000 people. Infineon puts great emphasis on maintaining its leading position, therefore it conducts R&D activities in 35 unit around the world, relying on 8,600 colleagues' expertise in the field.
On the Infineon site in Cegléd, the two Hungarian plants deal with the assembly and measurement of semiconductor modules as well as pressure contact disc thyristors, disc diodes and bipolar modules, giving work to 1,300 employees. Over a course of 25 years the subsidiary, which focuses on semiconductor production, has benefited from the German group's investments at an amount of around EUR 120 million. The company in Cegléd is a significant production base of performance-semiconductor modules. The semiconductors produced here are used in industrial automation and power technology, medical equipment, energy production, transportation and distribution, and also in the field of renewable energy sources.
The latest Infineon development, worth nearly EUR 100 million, will not only be targeted at semiconductors. It will also contribute to electromobility in Hungary, since the German company's new plant in Cegléd will produce modules for inverters in electric and hybrid vehicles. Besides, the investment, which will create 275 new jobs, will also reinforce the Hungarian SME sector, since Infineon pays special attention to making sure that small and medium-sized Hungarian enterprises are involved in the supply chain.
